The Age of Worms
Encountered by Jane during her inspection of the Emporium menagerie before selling the owlbear, and an acquaintance of Riddle’s. Little is known him, the shaggy wild man from the northern pine forests whose teeth and jagged claws contrast so strikingly with his gentleman’s garb and quiet, cultured demeanor. Shag arrived in Diamond Lake ten years ago, traveling companion to one Professor Montague Marat. Marat skipped town in the middle of the night three years ago, but Solomon behind, and has since nurtured a close friendship with Zalamandra, who allows him to maintain residence in her building. Shag enjoys storytelling, which he does at the Emporium, and reading and dragonchess, which he engages in at Lazare’s. Though he is on friendly terms with most everybody in Diamond Lake, nobody could be said to “know him” except Zalamandra…and the true extent of their relationship is known to none but them. Shag is a monstrous humanoid called a Quaggoth: savage, fearless creatures known to fly into unstoppable killing rages when injured even slightly.
