The Age of Worms
The Red Death
Terrible plague that swept the continent in 576 and wiped out up to a fifth of the population in larger cities. In more rural areas like Diamond Lake, quarantining was easier/more effective, so the loss of life was lower, though it still took its toll. Entire families were wiped out. Early symptoms included terrible headaches and vertigo. Bones grew brittle, especially the skull. When peoples ears, eyes and mouth began leaking blood, the end was near. People died within three days of presenting symptoms. The disease proved highly resistant to magical healing – many clerics and paladins found their powers useless against it.
